Posted on February 15, 2014, Saturday KUCHING: Iconic gastrobar brand The Library has officially made its foray into East Malaysia with the opening of its first branch in Kuching at ST3 Shopping Mall. The much talked-about franchise, which had opened its doors to Kuchingites on January 25, has currently more than 10 outlets across Malaysia and three upcoming outlets to be opened soon. During its soft launching on Thursday night, outlet manager Louis Law said what sets The Library apart from other restaurants and bars in Kuching is its brand and concept. "We don't have anything like this in Kuching, yet. There's a very good opportunity to open it here," he said. The Library has been built on strategy whereby it offers a large selection of both imported and locally brewed beer, a variety of premium liquor as well as a selection of fine-dining dishes and finger food. "Also, the reason why we chose this location is because we have universities, adjoining malls, and other commercial centres nearby. "While the malls are lively during the day, at night, it's our turn to shine. We are trying to highlight the night-life scene in this area. "Once all the upcoming commercial and entertainment centres are completed, we hope to make this place a 'hot' area, for night life," the outlet manager said. Unlike most bars in Kuching, Law said The Library aims to offer a more relaxing atmosphere for its guests as a laid back watering hole. "We don't want guests to feel inclined to dress in certain ways, or act in certain ways. We are trying create an environment whereby they can just chill." The Library is currently offering various promotions on its drinks such as beer tower promo whereby one Tiger or Heineken beer tower cost RM123 or RM143, respectively, for normal price and RM105 or RM122, for members' price, while for two Tiger or Heineken beer towers, customers can enjoy a nett price of RM190 normal price or RM162, members' price, while for Heineken at RM220 normal price or RM187 members' price. The Library also has its 'Happy Hour' promotion whereby from 4pm to 9pm, customers can buy one pint to get one free. From 9pm to 11pm, customers can buy one pint to get half a pint free, and from 11pm to closing, members can enjoy 15 per cent discount. In addition, it is 'ladies night' every Wednesday at The Library. Ladies in a group of five or more can get a free cocktail each. According to Law, the promotion will likely change bi-monthly, depending on customers' responses.
