HARI KOPERASI NEGARA 2015

KUCHING: Members of the public, especially youths, are invited to join in the merriment of the 'Konsert Gegar Hari Koperasi Negara 2015' that will be held at the Kuching Waterfront on August 15 and 16.

To be held in conjunction with the 14th National Cooperatives Day here from August 14 to 16, the concert will feature an exciting line-up of popular local artists including Datuk Jamal Abdillah, Datuk Ramli Sarip, Dayang Nurfaizah, Nubhan, Mark Adam, Nana Sheme, Iwan Dasri, Sayu Ateng, Nabil Raja Lawak, Ebby Yus, Abon and Sada Borneo.

The concert will start at 8.30pm for the two consecutive nights and there will also be other attractive community, spirituality, entertainment and sports programs at the same venue.

The 14th National Cooperatives Day is organised by Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism, Malaysian Cooperatives Commission (MCC) and Bumiputera Entrepreneurs Development Unit (Upub) in the Chief Minister's Office.

It will be officiated by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem accompanied by Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister's Office (Bumiputera Entrepreneurs Development) Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais and Minister of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Datuk Hamzah Zainudin at Kuching Waterfront at 10.30am on August 15.

MCC chairman Datuk Lamien Sawiyo said that National Cooperatives Day was organised to give recognition to the co-operative movement for it contribution to the country's economic development.

"With the theme 'One for All, All for One' for the celebration this time, I am hoping that all cooperatives in the country will take part in it to use this day as a platform to promote their concepts and products to the general public.

"The National Cooperatives Day is an effort by the government to transform a business entity to a more efficient, competitive and able to increase the income of its members," he said in a press release.

With a membership of 7.4 million people through 11, 871 cooperatives nationwide, the National Cooperatives Day provides 200 booths to showcase their cooperative products and services such as handicrafts, food-based industry, health products, agricultural inputs, tourism products as well as sewing and embroidery products.

Lamien added, in the celebration, the declaration of 'Tokoh Koperasi', launching of 100 best cooperatives profiles, and signing and exchanging of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) will also be held.

Prior to the officiating ceremony, there will also be a speech by Datuk Ustaz Mohd Khazim Elias on August 14 starting from 8pm at the main stage.

Other activities include Senam Seni 1Malaysia, Children's Coloring Contest by Skuad Nuri Bank Rakyat, Coop Karaoke, promo trailer for local movie 'Kanang Anak Langkau', Coop Get Talent, Pidato Piala Coop, Battle D'Buskers, Sarawak Pun Ada Talent, Jom Berambeh, and many more.

All activities are open to the public for free.

Lamien is targeting over 50, 000 visitors for the National Cooperatives Day this year.
