Posted on April 24, 2014, Thursday KUCHING: Mohd Haziq Asraf hit five goals to lead Kuching to a 7-0 romp over Bintulu to record their second straight win in the Boys U12 competition of the MSS Sarawak Hockey Championship at State Hockey Stadium here yesterday. After thumping Samarahan 3-0 in the opener on Tuesday, Kuching dominated the game against Bintulu with better passing and teamwork. They opened accounts as early as in the second minute and Haziq scored his first goal via a penalty corner in the 11th minute. The team captain, who studies at SK St Thomas, converted another penalty corner in the 18th minute and scored three field goals in the 16th minute, 27th and 27 minutes. With two wins in the bag, Kuching are leading the five-team league competition with six points, scoring 10 goals and conceded none. If they can beat Sibu in today's match, they will have a very good chance of winning the title. Kuching's final match will be against Mukah tomorrow. Sibu are now in second spot with three points after blanking Mukah 3-0 on Tuesday. Other matches saw Samarahan whipping Mukah 9-1 in the Boys U18 and a rampant Kuching cruising to a 10-1 victory over Betong in the Girls U18 Group B contest. In the final match of the day between Miri and Bintulu in the Girls U18 Group B that was resumed from yesterday because of heavy rain, the score stood at 1-0 in Bintulu's favour. Ten more matches are lined up for today and eight matches for tomorrow, including two semi-finals for the Girls U18 competition. The final for the Girls U18 will be played at 3pm on Saturday and the prize-giving ceremony scheduled at 4pm. |
First <b>Kuching</b> Rat Race Run on April 30 - The Borneo Post Online Posted: 22 Apr 2014 12:05 PM PDT KUCHING: The first ever Kuching Rat Race Run will be held on April 30 from 6pm to 11pm in conjunction with Labour Day. According to a press statement, the race will comprise of two categories namely, the 7km run and 4km walk, both of which will be flagged off at 7pm from Kuching South City Council (MBKS) building. MBKS Mayor Dato James Chan is expected to flag off the run. Participants are encouraged to come dressed in their most creative work attire although running shoes are allowed. In addition to prizes for the top 30 male and female finishers in the 7km run category, there will also be prizes for the Most Creatively Dressed Male and Female 'Kuli'. Each participant who completes either the 7km run or the 4km walk will be entitled to a 'Finisher's Singlet' as well as refreshment tokens while other activities include an 'After-Run Party' and a lucky draw. Organised by the 'O-RUN-UTAN Running Club', proceeds from the race will go to a charitable organisation, Hope Place. There will also be a group of male runners from another fellow running club, the Hornbill Pacesetters, dressed as females, participating for the same cause. Those who are interested to participate are required to pay a registration fee of RM35 per person.
