Message from the President

Welcome to the website of Junior Chamber International - Kota Kinabalu! JCI Kota Kinabalu has been in existence for 50 years, long before we had yellow pages, the Internet, and social marketing. As the world changes, JCI Kota Kinabalu changes with it. For the past few decades, we have been developing leaders within our organization and creating positive change through community development projects, outreach programs and leadership training. We believe that to effect real change, we have to be active citizens, despite the busy schedules that currently embrace the young entrepreneur or professional.

Four Points by Sheraton Kuching to go dark for a good cause ...

KUCHING: Four Points by Sheraton Kuching will be in darkness between 8.30pm and 9.30pm today to mark Earth Hour – an environmental awareness event by World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).

The hotel will be turning off its exterior signage lightings, dimming or turning off non-essential interior lightings, and using only candlelight in The Eatery, The Lounge and the hotel lobby, the hotel said in a press statement yesterday.

"There will also be a '60+' candlelight symbol at the hotel lobby to mark the observance of Earth Hour."

Meanwhile, the hotel announced that its 'Go Green' Earth Hour Buffet comprised chilled young mango with raisin and walnut, chilled oyster basil tomato jus, chicken a la Kiev, Morrocan lamb skewer, stewed whole fish with plum and fresh yam, a selection of globe-green miniature appetizers, classic Napoleon slice, and diplomat earth cake.

The buffet is priced at RM68++ per adult and children below 12 years enjoy a 50 per cent discount.

Interactive activities and entertainment have been lined up for the night. They include live band 'First August', which will bring the community together in the Earth celebration.

The hotel is also going beyond the hour and is committed to promoting the global environmental awareness through its corporate social responsibility (CSR) environmental project.

Fans of Four Points by Sheraton Kuching and Earth Hour supporters should not miss the opportunity to collect Earth Hour T-shirts printed with the hotel logo.

The special T-shirts will be sold at The Eatery entrance. Each piece costs RM25.

Not only can guests dining at The Eatery get the opportunity to experience the tranquillity of dining by moonlight, but they would also be supporting the community as 10 per cent of the bill would be contributed to the environmental project.

All proceeds from the T-shirts sales and 10 per cent of the Eatery bills would be channelled to a selected charitable body.

Among the environmental measures at the hotel are replacing lighting with high efficiency lighting, implementing green housekeeping, establishing a green committee to engage associates in everyday change and turning off gadgets at the end of the day or when unused for a long period.

Notably, Four Points by Sheraton Kuching is the first 100 per cent non-smoking international hotel in the city.

"The Four Points by Sheraton Kuching team is committed and goes beyond the hour to reduce our carbon footprint and making a greener planet.

"In-house guests will also be encouraged to switch off their room lights and adjourn to the lobby in participation of this global event," said Bobby Ting, acting general manager of Four Points by Sheraton Kuching.
