Won't be much rain. In fact there are higher occurences of clear blue sky in the middle of the year due to "dry" season. Nonetheless, Kuching is frequently suffering from haze that comes from the neighbor down south.

According to Glomus representative Thomas Winter, the event sets a creative platform for learning through a variety of parts which includes teaching, rehearsing, workshops and lectures.

"Glomus creates a cross cultural exchange opportunity where people of different traditions, cultures and music preference will blend in, which creates the chance to learn and appreciate one another," said Thomas.

He added that after it was held in Tanzania last year, they were approached by a team from UiTM who had invited them to organise the event in Kuching.

"Malaysia is a wonderful country and it is easily an easy choice.

It is a fabulous part of the world and is a melting pot of various cultures and races," he added.

"We hope that the locals, especially the music fraternity and students, will benefit from this camp as there are always things to learn from other parts of the world," he said.

The 10-day event, scheduled to be held from Jan 9 to 18 at the Sarawak Cultural Village will see participants from over 18 countries such as Finland, Sweden, Denmark, South Africa, Ghana, Tanzania, Egypt, Syria, United States, China and Latin countries.

Miden

Hey, remember when we went to Borneo? Yeah, I hardly remember it either because it was in July/August 2013. Tsk tsk! This is what happens when you don't immediately edit holiday photos, they sit on your hard drive for months and months and months, with a little gentle nagging reminder popping up in your head every now and again.

Slack.

Anyway. While in Kuching we did a cooking class, and it was one thing I really wanted to write up because it was FUN. During the class we cooked two dishes for lunch – a chicken curry and a vegetable dish. We also made a very easy dessert.

As well as the cooking class, there was also an option (at a small additional charge) for a market tour. We all know how I feel about markets, so it should be no surprise that we headed to the market.

Market

Apparently there used to be a market right in the centre of town, but it's now been moved across the river to a larger location. It was about a twenty minute drive.

We started in the fruit and vegetable section to have a look around. Everything was set up really nicely and it was so clean and tidy.

Midden

One of the things we had to purchase to cook for lunch was midin – which you may remember from the Top Spot post is a fern that grows in the Sarawak jungles.

The rest of the post is mostly pictures, tbh. :)

Turn Kuching into an Asian star by 2017 — Mayor – BorneoPost ...

KUCHING: Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) Mayor Datuk Abang Abdul Wahap Abang Julai aspires to help turn the city into the most talked about city in Asia by 2017.

To help him realise this dream, he is urging his staff to strengthen their team spirit and work hard on the Clean, Beautiful and Safe (CBS) Enhancement Plan.

"As DBKU embarks on this strategic five-year plan, which comes with greater responsibilities and challenges, we need to put more effort and work together as a team to ensure a vibrant and safe city," he said at DBKU's first monthly assembly of the year yesterday.

"It is also important to carefully manage complex processes as numerous mega development projects will be taking place across the city and within DBKU's areas of jurisdiction in stages."

Among the earmarked projects is the Datu Abang Kipali roundabout, which could disrupt traffic flow and activities in the areas during its construction.

"Then there's Darul Hana, a government project to reshape villages to provide residents with better living conditions, where drainage would be one of the issues to be addressed.

"Work on the S Bridge that connects the Square Tower to DUN Building is expected to begin middle of this year, and there's the Rapid Bus Transit to connect areas from Kuching Central to Masjid Bahagian. DBKU will have to oversee traffic flow and ensure its smooth implementation."

Meanwhile, DBKU will also be rolling out various activities this year, beginning with Majlis Agenda DBKU 2014 from Jan 24 to 26 at the Esplanade Kuching.

This event, geared towards direct citizen engagement, is scheduled to be graced by Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud.

"We are still planning for more activities and programmes to be carried out during the three-day event."

Among the activities to be organised are exhibition, food bonanza, food stalls, sports and recreational activities, entertainment and quiz with interesting prizes.

"We would like to invite the public to participate and be part of the community to ensure the success of the event."

During the monthly assembly yesterday, the Mangsi Bersama JabatanKU blog was launched.

It is an initiative under DBKU Cares to serve as a platform for employees and management to share information and ideas as well as voice out opinions and perspectives to improve DBKU's services and welfare of its employees.

Abdul Wahap also presented a 25-Year DBKU Service Award to its deputy director of Regulatory Service Department, Andrew Joris Noyen.

Six DBKU staff also received blood donation certificates from The Malaysian Red Crescent Society.
