Miden

Hey, remember when we went to Borneo? Yeah, I hardly remember it either because it was in July/August 2013. Tsk tsk! This is what happens when you don't immediately edit holiday photos, they sit on your hard drive for months and months and months, with a little gentle nagging reminder popping up in your head every now and again.

Slack.

Anyway. While in Kuching we did a cooking class, and it was one thing I really wanted to write up because it was FUN. During the class we cooked two dishes for lunch – a chicken curry and a vegetable dish. We also made a very easy dessert.

As well as the cooking class, there was also an option (at a small additional charge) for a market tour. We all know how I feel about markets, so it should be no surprise that we headed to the market.

Market

Apparently there used to be a market right in the centre of town, but it's now been moved across the river to a larger location. It was about a twenty minute drive.

We started in the fruit and vegetable section to have a look around. Everything was set up really nicely and it was so clean and tidy.

Midden

One of the things we had to purchase to cook for lunch was midin – which you may remember from the Top Spot post is a fern that grows in the Sarawak jungles.

The rest of the post is mostly pictures, tbh. :)

We didn't spend very much time in the fish and meat section because we didn't need to buy anything. (We were cooking chicken curry for lunch, but the meat had already been purchased and was already marinating.)

Fresh coconut

This machine made grated coconut, and it looked quite dangerous. The noise! The man just casually stuck pieces of coconut in there with his bare hands and it grated the coconut in seconds.
