KUCHING: Dream Team and Accountsoft captured the men's and women's titles respectively at the Kuching Open volleyball tournament which ended at Sesco indoor stadium on Sunday.

Dream Team overcame Volleyer 25-13, 25-20 in the semi-final on Saturday before going up against defending champions IJM Land, the team that comprised mostly veterans.

IJM Land had beaten PJ 23-25, 25-18, 15-10 to enter the final.

In the final, both teams fought point for point to 10-10 in the first set before Dream Team's greater consistency enabled them to win 25-20.

In the second set, IJM Land offered little resistance as Dream Team led 18-7 before wrapping up the victory 25-7.

PJ finished in third place after they beat Volleyer 25-12, 25-21 in the play-off match. The women's final was a much closer affair.

A fierce battle ensued from the first set, with the lead changing hands several times, before Landbase persevered to win 35-33.

Accountsoft then controlled the game in the second set to win 25-22 before clinching the decider 24-15.

Unimas came in third with a 25-20, 25-12 victory ovcer KSRL.

The nine-day tournament, organised by the Kuching Division Volleyball Association (KDVA), saw a very encouraging response, with 19 teams taking part.

KDVA deputy president Andrew Ting gave away the prizes.

KUCHING: The Kuching 4X4 Challenge, with a refreshing mix of new names and old faces on the podium, ended on Monday after three days of fierce competition.

In the premier Group A for unlimited modified vehicles, Low Fook Jan took the top prize with co-driver and veteran Chai Mui Shin, past champion of many international 4X4 challenges.

Low and Chai scored a total of 405 points to win convincingly, coming home first in two out of the five Special Stages (SS), plus a second and third placing in two others.

All competitors failed to finish the fifth stage in the allocated time.

The fastest finisher in each SS earned 100 points, wi th 95 points for second fastest, 90 for third.

Each subsequent place gets three points less.

Various infringements are penalised with deductions of points. Chai Shan Fa and co-driver Thian Sik Kwang finished 35 points behind to claim second spot with Lai Nyuk Shin and Chong Vui Chen third.

In Group B, for cars with standard winches, Ng Teck Kui and Chin Kian Ming won with 426 points, just one point ahead of Lee Bui Fah and Bon Lieh Tzen. Bhill Diway and Albert "Burung" Mikin recovered from a setback in the last SS, when their Suzuki toppled onto its side, to claim third prize with 362 points.

Group C proved to be first time lucky for Lu Shiau Min and co-driver Lu Siaw Chai, who raced to the top with 443 points, ahead of Choo Cheng Foh-Ng Foong Fui (413 points) and Albert Mikin-Shamarizane Mikin (410).

The Kuching 4X4 Challenge, held at Lee Ling Heights near Kota Sentosa (7th Mile) here, attracted a large crowd of spectators and enthusiasts.

"We are happy with the good turnout, of both competitors and supporters, which augur well for the future of extreme 4X4 challenges as a sport in Sarawak," organising chairman Wilfred Sim commented.

The best and complete security Home Alarm System in Kuching ...

Heh, the title is a little bit misleading, but well, it's SEO working its magic, and since you are here, you might as well just read on, you have the time, and I assure you this is all about a home alarm system.

As you know, a week ago, I lost two helmets at home (read about it here), and I vowed to get an alarm system to enhance the security at home.

The vibration sensor placed on all the windows will make the alarm sound if there is vibration on the grill. Moving the sensor would also trigger the alarm.

I have also since moved my shoe cabinet and helmet inside the house because as much as it seems ridiculous, people do steal stuff which are just a few ringgits in price. The price of a similar helmet like the one I lost was sold at RM50 (new) at local mechanic shops, and I wonder how much a used one would go for.

Nonetheless, after much research, reading and contemplating… I have decided to go with this one alarm brand which is made in Malaysia, but designed in the US.

There are a few reasons why I decided to go for this particular brand, but the biggest one was due to its zero interest, 12-month installment plan, available only via credit card payment.

Obviously, I am not poor, but I don't have RM2.8K lying around just like that, so installment it is. If you are however cash-able, the price could be the same if you choose to sign up as member of the security system (priced only at RM90), but if you don't, it will be priced so much higher at RM3.8K. Not to worry however, there is no recurring cost, except for perhaps servicing the alarm which I understand is done every few years, once.

The heart of it all. The control panel of the Alarm.

It comes with a 13 + 1 zone central Control Panel with built-in siren, an auto dialer (to call me and four other number when it goes off), three magnetic contact with transmitter (just perfect for the three doors my house have), three vibration sensor with transmitter, two remote controls and a loud ass external siren box.

Installation of the external siren box. This small box produces a loud 120db sound which ill rock your neighborhood.

While the auto dialer can be easily cut off if one was to disconnect the phone line, the loud sound from the alarm box would definitely require those around to check out what's going on, and that's the whole point. You could get the whole unit at a much cheaper rate, minus the external box, but the internal alarm ring is no where near what the 120db external siren box could provide!

You know the scenes in movies where one tries to disable the alarm system by knocking out the siren box or cut of the wires connected to the alarm?

Cutting any wires when the alarm is armed will trigger the siren.

Well, this alarm system I purchased is well designed because any disconnection or movement of any of its components, including any attempts to open, or damage the alarm box siren, will trigger the alarm immediately. Quite cool huh! On top of that, the internal battery can last for an impressive 12 hours, which is beyond any major blackout in Kuching to date.

The alarm would also automatically contact you via your mobile phone immediately if the siren went off, or if there is a power failure. It will even inform you which sensor has been disabled/disturbed through the call to your phone.

To top that up, the instruction manual comes in four languages, and it's really easy to use.

Anyway, I know you'd say that there are so many other cheaper brands out there, but with China products flooding the market, many with unknown history and quality, I just had to spend big on something many people have gave very positive remarks over, which is this alarm system.

In fact, it is my belief that with cost of living getting higher, there is a tendency that security alarm suppliers will try to cut cost and offer you what you want at your price, without telling you what's the quality of the product they are offering.

Alarm systems on sell on Mudah.my which are so much cheaper, but are they guaranteed to work?

With that in mind, I figured that spending RM2.8K on something sure of its quality, and the availability of spare parts, which also comes with a FOUR YEAR warranty is better than getting something which last just a year, before you have to start spending big again.
