This country is known for its stunning sights and attractions. We are going to explore its astounding natural beauty that magnetizes vacationers/ tourists or visitors attraction. It's a country of exclusive culture and tradition. It's one of the best places on the globe with delicious cuisine and hospitable people. Kuala Lumpur is its capital with charming iconic Petronas Twin Towers.  Malaysia has many offshore geographical places. There would be around 510 which include ridges, sandbank and rocks. It's a multicultural state with many festivals and celebrations. Tour to Malaysia, is really a unique and pleasant experience.

There're lots of choices to stay in Malaysia, so it's tough to decide where to stay?

Malaysia is a land of festivals and celebrations as multicultural people exist here. Tourists or vacationers can enjoy these festivals almost every month of the year. Here are some suggestions for our visitors.

Tamil Community celebrates festival named "Thaipusam". It's a unique festival that is worth seeing. It can be best observed at Batu Caves in Selangor or Penang, in Januanry.

Chinese New Year is celebrated in February and last for 15 days. You can enjoy lion dances, fireworks, and delicious Chinese meal.

In April, Good Friday and Malaysia Water Festival are celebrated.

Wesak Day, and Harvest Festival are celebrated in May.

June is a month with amazing festivals like Hari Gawai and Dragon Boat Festivals.

Malaysia is not less than a heaven for shopaholics. Super international brands have covered Malaysian market and have luxury stores here. Sales at shopping mall attract many tourists every year. Mega Sales held on Christmas and Independence Day and last up to two months.

Kubah Ria Adam Nasi Campur. Famous for its Asam Pedas Ikan. Made it Ikan Pelayang, Ikan Panjang or whatever fish, they still manage to cooked it the best way.




Mi Udang Gumpey located at Kampung Gumpey Gedung. I've tried it myself and it's so delicious. The sweetness from the prawn can be tasted. Humble kampung style cooking, cooked by makcik kampung.  There is no need for extra ingredients nor seasoning. They maintained the freshness of the prawn by keeping it in a pond made nearby the stall. By the time the prawn are ordered and to be cook, it's still moving!

wah wah.. jangan lari. Cerita cuti ni seminggu pun belum habis. Banyak sangat nak dicerita dan banyak sangat perkara menarik yang berlaku.

Selepas pulangkan kunci homestay kepada penjaga, kami bergerak ke Kampung Benuk Homestay kira-kira 34 Kilometer dari Bandaraya Kuching. Dari Kuching ambil jalan arah untuk ke Lapanganterbang dan ikut arah ke Kota Samarahan atau Serian.

Bagi pelawat luar, menandu dan mencari arah perlu berhari-hati. Kalau dalam bandar, panan tanda belum menunjukkan arah ke bandar terdekat sebaliknya hanya menunjukkan nama jalan. Terus terang, Google Maps sangat membantu. Samsung S3 saya banyak 'makan bateri' kerana Google Maps!

Mari ikut saya dan keluarga melawat tempat menarik di Kuching, Sarawak. Sebelum tu, boleh baca dulu entri terdahulu yang merangkumi hari pertama dan kedua di sini :

Ambil Jalan Penrissen, kemudian Jalan Kuching – Serian , Jalan Kota Padawan dan berjumpa bulatan comel ada arca burung. Ambil jalan Puncak Borneo. Selepas lebih kurang 3KM, akan jumpa Semenggoh Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre.  Memandu lebih kurang 15 minit sehingga berjumpa Kampung Benuk Bidayuh Longhouse. Disitulah Homestay Kampung Benuk.

Kami sampai ke Kampung Benuk Tourists Information Cente hampir jam 11. Untuk masuk dan melawat rumah panjang di Kampung Benuk, pelawat perlu membayar RM5 seorang. Saya dah buat temujanji dengan Encik Ewing Senon iaitu pengurus di rumah panjang ini. 5 minit selepas membuat panggilan, Encik Ewing pun sampai.

Inilah Rumah Panjang Kampung Benuk.  Bentuk rumah panjang dibina tinggi untuk mengelak serangan musuh, binatang buas atau banjir.  Pada masa dahulu, tangga akan dinaikkan apabila malam untuk mengelak rumah panjang dicerobohi musuh. Atap rumah panjang menggunakan rumbia atau sagu dan dinding juga pelantar atau lantai rumah menggunakan buluh. Tiang menggunakan Kayu Belian.

Ewing Senon Homestay Kampung Benuk

Ewing Senon sedang menerangkan sejarah dan pembinaan rumah panjang kaum Bidayuh di Kampung Benuk. Kayu Belian yang amat terkenal tahan dan lasak digunakan sebagai tiang dan kerangka utama pembinaan rumah panjang. Tangga ini adalah binaan asal yang berusia lebih 100 tahun.

Inilah bentuk tangga asal di rumah panjang – dua beradik ni tak henti naik turun main tangga.   Agak licin kalau melaluinya dengan kasut tetapi orang zaman dulu berkaki ayam, tak ada masalah.

Rumah Panjang Bidayuh Kampung Benuk

Ruang rumah panjang menggunakan lantai diperbuat daripada buluh.    Ruang yang terdedah ini  menggunakan buluh yang lebih tahan lasak kerana kesan hujan dan panas.  Perlu diganti setiap tahun.

Rumah panjang asalnya sebuah, apabila seorang anak telah berkahwin, akan dibina sebuah lagi berhampir dan bersambung dengan ruang seperti ini.  Begitulah turutannya sehingga membentuk satu perkampungan yang mempunyai pertalian anak beranak saudara mara.

Anak-anak etnik Bidayuh yang baru balik dari tadika.  Ruang rumah panjang yang terdedah ini bukan saja digunakan sebagai laluan penduduk tetapi mereka menjemur getah, padi, lada atau jagung di tempat ini.

Ini ruang yang berbumbung.. biasanya tempat anak-anak bermain dan orang dewasa duduk bersosial seperti untuk majlis perkahwinan dan upacara agama.  Dihujung sana adalah ruang dapur untuk memasak. Di bahagian atas dibuat tempat menyimpan hasil tuaian seperti ubi atau padi.

Tanam sayuran untuk kegunaan keluarga.  Kemua keperluan berada dipersekitaran rumah.  Sayur-sayuran dan ayam itik.

Kemudian kami terus berjalan sepanjang laluan rumah panjang  hingga ke Baruh atau Panggah atau rumah kepala iaitu rumah ketua bagi etnik Bidayuh di Sarawak. Baruk ini biasanya berada di tengah-tengah rumah panjang tempat ketua dan pahlawan kampung berkumpul dan bermesyuarat. Binaanya sesuai untuk tugas pemantau kampung dari serangan musuh atau binatang liar.

Ini namanya Ranji yang dibuat daripada rotan. Biasanya orang Bidayuh bawa ke kebun ( umai ) untuk mengisi hasil yang dituai.

Tengkorak kepala musuh yang pernah dipenggal dan digantungkan di dalam rumah dianggarkan berusia lebih 400 tahun. Banyaknya tengkorak melambangkan kepahlawanan mereka.

Sesuai dengan konsep homestay yang menghidangkan kehidupan budaya Bidayuh, kami dibawa melawat kebun meraka. Tak jauh sangat dari rumah panjang tetapi melalui kawasan ini boleh saja mendengar bunyi serangga dan hidupan.

Ewing akan terangkan segalanya mengenai rutin kehidupan yang dilalui oleh penduduk dan memori zaman membesarnya.

Kebuh mereka ada segala macam sayuran. Buah-buahan, durian, pisang, kopi, serai, ubi kayu, halia, labu, sebut saja apa jenis semua ada.

Pokok Lada hitam
Ini adalah pokok lada yang menghasilkan lada hitam dan lada putih. Kedua-dua jenis lada ini dihasilkan dari tandan yang sama. Bezanya lada hitam menggunakan lada yang masih hijau dan dijemur dan lada putih dihasilkan dari lada yang masak berwarna merah dan direndam dibuang kulitnya barulah dijemur. Proses menghasilkan lada itulah yang membezakan keduanya dari segi rupa dan rasa.

Hampir 98 peratus pengeluaran lada di Malaysia datangnya dari Sarawak, jadi dimana-mana saja kita boleh lihat penduduk menanam pokok lada. Ada yang berkebun segara besar-besaran dan ada yang sekadar menanam disekitar halaman rumah.

Untuk menyeberang sungai ke kebun, inilah jalannya. Sebuah jambatan buluh yang dibina hampir 30 kaki tingginya. Menurut Ewing, mereka bina jambatan disetiap sungai yang perlu dilitas apabila ke kebun.

Setiap pelawat yang datang ke Sarawak, mesti melalui pengalaman menarik melalui jambatan buluh di Kampung Benuk. Barulah dapat rasa kembali ke asal usul dan menyelami kehidupan budaya mereka.

Seronok dapat merasai sendiri pengalaman berharga ini.  Seronok juga kerana dapat mendedahkan anak-anak dengan pengetahuan yang mereka sukar temui.  Kalau korang datang melawat Kuching , sila masukkan rumah panjang Kampung Benuk di dalam senarai tempat menarik yang perlu dilawati di Kuching.  Ada beberapa pakej penginapan yang disediakan di homestay mengikut keperluan pelawat.

Selepas melawat kebun, kami balik ke homestay Kampung Benuk.  Makan masakan tempatan pucuk timun dan beras tempatan yang berlainan dari kebiasaan.
