Polytechnic Malaysia <b>Kuching</b> and MySet hold tech seminar <b>...</b>

KUCHING: Polytechnic Malaysia Kuching and Malaysia Society for Engineering and Technology (MySet) jointly held the 'SwakCreate 2014', a national seminar on professionalism of technicians yesterday.

About 230 assistant and junior engineers, technicians, technical assistants, services advisors, supervisors from the public and private sectors as well as lectures, instructors and students of technical and vocational education training (TVET) institutions attended the one-day event.

Minister of Works Datuk Fadillah Yusof launched the event.

The seminar, among others, aimed to provide a platform for industrial sector technicians both local and foreign and the academia to discuss issues pertaining to the professionalism of technicians.

It also provides opportunities to the participants to share their knowledge, experiences, information and challenges faced by technicians at their respective organisations and workplaces.

Five papers were presented during the seminar namely 'Towards a better future for technicians', 'Skill development of technicians', 'Good working ethics of technicians', 'Professional technicians – Is gender an issue?' and 'Working life as a technician'.

Fadillah also witnessed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) documents exchange between Polytechnic Malaysia and Swinburne Sarawak at the Institute of Materials Malaysia (IMM).

There was also an exchange of Letter of Intent between Polytechnic Malaysia Kuching and HERE Global BV Sdn Bhd.

Among those present were Polytechnic Malaysia Kuching director Clara Ong, MySet president Professor Datuk Dr Abang Abdullah Abang Ali, Department of Polytechnic Education senior director (academic) of Ministry of Education Mohd Ghaus Abdul Kadir, Workforce Development Unit of Chief Minister's Office director Professor Dr Rahman Deen, Corporate Affairs Department deputy director John Wong and Proactive Training Centre Kuching president and chief executive officer Dato' Seri Dr Bernard Tan Abdullah.
